Step 1: Warm-up (Engage Students)
- Activity: Ask, “How are you today?” and let students answer in their own words.
- Write on board: "I am fine" and ask, “Can we say it differently?”
- Encourage students to think of different ways.
Step 2: Introduce New Phrases
Use visuals or emotions to explain:
- Happy responses:
- I’m great!
- I’m fantastic!
- I’m on top of the world!
- Neutral responses:
- I’m okay.
- I’m doing fine.
- Not too bad.
- Sad/Tired responses:
- I’m a bit tired.
- I’m feeling down.
- I’ve had better days.
Interactive Activity: Show emoji flashcards and ask, “How would you reply if you feel like this?”
Step 3: Role-play Conversations
- Pair Activity: One student asks, “How are you?” and the other responds with a different phrase each time.
- Challenge: Students must answer differently every time.
Step 4: Real-Life Situations
- Scenario-based practice:
- Meeting a friend after a long time
- Talking to a teacher
- Answering a stranger politely
- Expressing emotions genuinely
Activity: Give a situation and ask students to respond naturally.
Step 5: Wrap-up and Fun Game
- Game: Pass the Ball – Play music, pass a ball. When the music stops, the student holding the ball answers, “How are you?” differently.
- Exit Ticket: Before leaving, every student must say “How are you?” differently at least once.
