Ways to Respond to “Thank You”

1. Warm-up Activity (Engage Students)

  • Ask: "What do you say when someone thanks you?"
  • Let students brainstorm responses like:
    • You're welcome
    • No problem
    • My pleasure
    • Anytime
    • Don't mention it
  • Write their answers on the board and introduce new responses if needed.

2. Introduce Responses in Context (Explain & Demonstrate)

Use a simple dialogue to show different responses:

Example 1: Basic

๐Ÿ‘ฉ: "Thanks for helping me with my homework."
๐Ÿ‘ฆ: "You're welcome!"

Example 2: Friendly

๐Ÿ‘จ: "Thanks for your advice!"
๐Ÿ‘ฉ: "No worries!"

Example 3: Formal

๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ: "Thank you for your time."
๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ’ผ: "My pleasure!"

Let students repeat the responses aloud to build confidence.

3. Interactive Practice (Student Involvement)

A. Role Play (Pair Activity)

  • Give situations where one person says “Thank you”, and the other responds.
  • Example situations:
    • Borrowing a pen
    • Helping with homework
    • Holding the door for someone
  • Let pairs act it out using different responses.

B. Matching Game

  • Write "Thank You" sentences on one side of the board and possible responses on the other.
  • Students match the correct responses.

C. Quick Fire Round

  • Stand in a circle.
  • One student says "Thank you for…", the next student must respond with a different phrase quickly.
  • Keep going until all responses are used.

4. Fun Challenge (Reinforce Learning)

  • Mystery Response: Write different responses on paper slips. Students pick one randomly and must use it in conversation.
  • Creative Writing: Ask students to write mini-dialogues using different responses.

5. Wrap-Up & Review

  • Ask: “What’s your favorite way to respond to ‘Thank you’?”
  • Quick recap & encourage students to use variety in real life.
