Expressions about Age

📌 Lesson Plan: Expressions About Age

🎯 Objective:

  • Learn how to ask and answer questions about age.
  • Use common expressions related to age in conversations.

1️⃣ Warm-up Activity (Engagement)

🎭 Role-Playing: "Guess My Age"

  1. Write different ages (e.g., 5, 12, 18, 25, 40, 60) on small slips of paper.
  2. Each student picks a slip but does not show it.
  3. Others ask, "How old are you?"
    • The student can reply with hints instead of directly stating the age (e.g., "I am old enough to vote" → 18 years).
  4. The class guesses the age.

2️⃣ Basic Expressions (Learning Phase)

Teach these key expressions using real-life examples:

🔹 Asking About Age:

  • "How old are you?"
  • "May I ask how old you are?" (Polite)
  • "Guess my age!" (Casual, fun way)

🔹 Answering Age:

  • "I am __ years old."
  • "I'm in my twenties/thirties/forties."
  • "I'm almost __ years old." (Example: "I'm almost 18.")
  • "I'm in my early/mid/late __s." (Example: "I'm in my late 30s.")
  • "I'm as young as I feel!" (Humorous)

3️⃣ Interactive Practice (Speaking & Listening)

🎲 Activity 1: Pair Work - "Find Someone Who..."

  • Create a Bingo-style worksheet with statements like:
✅ Find someone who is younger than 10.
✅ Find someone who is older than 20.
✅ Find someone who is the same age as you.
  • Students move around and ask each other, "How old are you?"
  • They mark answers and report back.

🎤 Activity 2: Interview a Celebrity

  • Assign each student a famous personality (e.g., Messi, Taylor Swift, Ratan Tata).
  • They research their age and answer as if they are that person.
  • Others ask: "How old are you?" and react accordingly.

4️⃣ Fun Expressions About Age

🔹 Young People:

  • "I'm just a kid!"
  • "I'm in my prime!"
  • "I'm a teenager!"

🔹 Older Age:

  • "Age is just a number!"
  • "I’m young at heart!"
  • "I'm getting wiser with age!"

🎭 Role-play Challenge:

  • Write different age-related expressions on the board.
  • Students act out a situation using one of them.
