Phrases You’ll Hear in the Airport

Step 1: Introduction (Warm-up)

🎤 Discussion Question:

  • "Have you ever traveled by plane?"
  • "What words do you think you might hear at an airport?"

🖼️ Visual Aid:

  • Show a picture of an airport. Point to different sections (Check-in, Security, Boarding Gate, etc.).

✈️ Scenario Setup:

  • "Imagine you are at the airport for a trip. What will you hear? Let's learn some useful phrases!"

Step 2: Key Phrases (Explanation + Pronunciation)

💡 Teach these phrases step by step with pronunciation practice:

1️⃣ At Check-in Counter:

✅ "Can I see your passport and ticket?"
✅ "Do you have any luggage to check in?"
✅ "Here is your boarding pass."

🎭 Activity:

  • Role-play: One student is the airline staff, and another is a passenger. Give them scripts first, then let them improvise.

2️⃣ Security Check:

✅ "Please place your bag on the conveyor belt."
✅ "Remove your shoes and belt, please."
✅ "You are good to go!"

🎮 Game:

  • Charades: One student acts out security instructions, and others guess the phrase.

3️⃣ Boarding & In-flight Phrases:

✅ "Now boarding passengers for Flight XYZ."
✅ "Please fasten your seatbelt."
✅ "Enjoy your flight!"

🛫 Activity:

  • Announcement Practice: Students take turns using a microphone (or pretend one) to make boarding announcements.

Step 3: Interactive Listening & Speaking Practice

👂 Listening Task:

  • Play an airport announcement audio clip and ask students to note key information.

🗣️ Pair Work:

  • One student gives flight details, and the other repeats them back correctly.

🎭 Group Skit:

  • Groups act out an airport scene using the phrases they learned.

Step 4: Fun Challenge & Recap

Flashcard Quiz: Show images and ask students to match them with the right phrase.
Quick Fire Round: Say a phrase, and students identify where they hear it (Check-in, Security, or Boarding).
Exit Ticket: Ask students, "What’s one phrase you learned today that you’ll use in the future?"
