Excuses for Being Late

๐Ÿ“Œ Step 1: Introduction (Warm-up)

๐ŸŽค Discussion Questions:

  • Have you ever been late? Why?
  • What are some common excuses people give for being late?

๐ŸŽญ Activity:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Mime & Guess: The trainer mimes being late for class/work, and students guess the reason.

๐Ÿ“Œ Step 2: Vocabulary & Expressions

Teach students common excuses step by step.

๐Ÿ”น Personal Reasons

  • "I overslept."
  • "I wasn’t feeling well."
  • "I lost track of time."

๐Ÿ”น Transport Issues

  • "The bus/train was late."
  • "There was a traffic jam."
  • "My bike/car broke down."

๐Ÿ”น Unexpected Situations

  • "There was an emergency at home."
  • "I got stuck in the rain."
  • "My alarm didn’t ring."

๐ŸŽฒ Activity:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Match & Act: Give students situation cards (e.g., "traffic jam"), and they act out the excuse.

๐Ÿ“Œ Step 3: Dialogues & Role-play

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Dialogue Practice:
Student A (boss/teacher): "Why are you late?"
Student B: "I’m sorry, but _______________ (excuse)."

๐ŸŽญ Role-Play:

  • One student is the boss/teacher.
  • Other students take turns giving excuses.
  • The boss/teacher decides whether to accept or reject the excuse.

๐Ÿ“Œ Step 4: Fun Challenge

⏳ Quick Excuse Challenge:

  • Give students 5 seconds to make an excuse when called on.
  • If they hesitate, they are "late" again and must try a different excuse.

๐Ÿคน Story Chain:

  • Each student adds a sentence to make a long, creative excuse (e.g., "I woke up late... then my dog ate my shoe... then my bike had a flat tire...").

๐Ÿ“Œ Step 5: Real-Life Application

✍ Writing Task:

  • Students write a short email apologizing for being late.
  • Example: "Dear Sir, I apologize for being late because _______."
